Shadow Wood Country Club's directions for guests take the long way around. From I-75, you take exit 123, go west on Corkscrew Road, turn left onto Three Oaks Parkway and drive 2.6 miles. Then you turn right onto Coconut Road, and after a mile the community gate is on your right. In those directions, Three Oaks Parkway is just a stretch of road between an interstate exit and the turn for home.
Lee County now describes it differently. The county scheduled a new section of Three Oaks Parkway to open after a 10 a.m. ribbon cutting on Monday, Nov. 2. That section crosses the Fiddlesticks Canal and connects to Daniels Parkway. Once that section opens, the road Shadow Wood uses to reach Coconut Road continues north to one of south Fort Myers' main east-west arteries. The extension was set to open about a year and a half before its original contract date. That means the corridor's first season runs alongside its final construction, and the work at the Daniels end may still be wrapping up when spring training starts on Daniels Parkway.
One Road From Daniels to Collier County
In its Oct. 19 announcement, Lee County called the extension a Tier 1 Capital Improvement Project priority for the Board of County Commissioners. The release explains what the county sees in it:
"This project completes the Three Oaks Parkway corridor, which provides critical north/south relief to Interstate 75 by providing a major arterial roadway from Daniels Parkway south through the Village of Estero, the City of Bonita Springs and Collier County."
The idea is old. The project overview says county commissioners adopted the current northern alignment in May 2007, revising an earlier one from February 2001. The project was funded in the county's five-year Capital Improvement Program in 2017, when traffic re-evaluation and design began. A road first drawn on a map 25 years ago was scheduled to reach Daniels this November.
The new section is a four-lane divided road with two 11-foot lanes in each direction. Each side has a 5-foot bike lane and a 6-foot sidewalk, and the median ranges from 14 to 18 feet wide. The original construction contract called for completion in mid-2028. In its Oct. 19 announcement, the county put final completion in early 2027. The county's weekly Roadwatch report for Oct. 22 to 28 still lists mid-2028 as the estimated completion date, noting that the project is ahead of schedule. In WINK News coverage before the opening, Lee County Transportation Director Robert Price said the project was running about 18 months ahead of schedule.
Open Is Not the Same as Finished
The county's announcement says plainly that drivers will see more work in the area after the ribbon cutting, even though the new section of Three Oaks Parkway is open. Most of the remaining work is where Three Oaks meets Daniels, at the north end of the drive from Shadow Wood.
| Piece of the corridor | Status in the county's late-October updates | What still has to happen |
|---|---|---|
| New Three Oaks Parkway across the Fiddlesticks Canal | Scheduled to open Nov. 2 after the ribbon cutting | Additional nearby work continues after opening |
| Three Oaks Parkway and Palomino Lane at Daniels Parkway | Intermittent lane closures and temporary stop conditions during signal work | Intersection is complete once restriping occurs |
| Palomino Lane | Intermittent lane closures over a three-week window | Part of the same intersection work |
| Daniels Parkway, Danport Boulevard to Apaloosa Lane/Powers Court | Widened to eight lanes; three lanes open each way, outside lanes closed | All eight lanes open after final paving and striping |
| Whole project | Oct. 19 announcement: final completion in early 2027; Oct. 22–28 Roadwatch: estimated mid-2028, ahead of schedule | Original contract date was mid-2028 |
The Roadwatch report for Oct. 22 to 28 gives the cost of the northern segment, from near Indian Paint Lane to Daniels Parkway, as about $39.7 million and names EHC Construction as the contractor. The county's project materials don't all use the same phase names and dates. The Oct. 19 county announcement is the most recent, and it puts the end of construction in early 2027.
Expect the Daniels end of the trip to change from week to week through the winter. Lane closures, temporary stops and the number of open lanes on Daniels will all shift until the final paving and striping are done.
Where the North End Lets You Out
The first stop sits right at the end of the new section. A new roundabout at Fiddlesticks Boulevard and Old Fiddlesticks Boulevard gives access to the Publix shopping center there. That center is the Shoppes at Fiddlesticks, anchored by Publix #0864 at 13650 Fiddlesticks Boulevard in Fort Myers, at Daniels Parkway and Fiddlesticks Boulevard about half a mile west of I-75. Its current tenant list includes:
- Leoni's Pizzeria
- Fiddlesticks Café
- Mak's Asian Kitchen
- The UPS Store
- Fiddlesticks Veterinary Care
- Scenthound
The county's project overview says the connection between Three Oaks Parkway and Fiddlesticks Boulevard was built specifically to serve nearby residents and shopping. During construction, the center already had a new southern entrance off Three Oaks. Northbound drivers could turn left into it, and southbound drivers were limited to right turns in and out.
Past the shopping center, Three Oaks ends at Daniels Parkway, and Daniels leads to the season's biggest draw. JetBlue Park sits on Daniels Parkway 1.6 miles east of the Treeline Avenue intersection. The Red Sox travel page directs drivers there from I-75 at exit 131.
February Is the Corridor's First Real Test
The Boston Red Sox spring training schedule lists 2027 home games at JetBlue Park on Feb. 19, 21, 22, 23 and 25. Game times and ticket details will be announced later. Those dates fall in the same early-2027 window the county's Oct. 19 announcement set for final completion. So the first spring training crowds may arrive while the Three Oaks and Daniels work is wrapping up or just finished. Either way, it will be the first time the completed corridor handles a regular seasonal surge.
Lee County gives drivers several ways to check the corridor before a trip:
- The weekly Roadwatch Update, which the county posts every Thursday with that week's closures and lane shifts.
- The project site, ThreeOaksExtension.com, which the county maintains for construction updates.
- The county's YouTube channel and Facebook page, which carried the ribbon cutting live.
Roadwatch comes out on Thursdays, the same day this post publishes. So the latest Daniels Parkway lane configuration is posted before any weekend drive north.
The Other Opening Is a Mile Inside the Gate
While Three Oaks Parkway changes outside Coconut Road, Shadow Wood's own project is nearing completion past the gatehouse. Shadow Wood Country Club's lifestyle page lists a resort pool and poolside dining as "Opening 2026." It describes zero-depth entry and children's pools, lap lanes, water features, private cabanas and towel service. The dining side includes a covered Pool Bistro with a full-service kitchen and bar, service to your chair, and a Grab & Go café.
These are pieces of the larger Lifestyle Center. When the Village of Estero's Planning, Zoning and Design Board approved it in August 2025, the plans described a one-story building with six indoor pickleball courts, dining, a tennis pro shop and a resort-style pool, with completion expected by late 2026. At the Village Council's Oct. 7 workshop, the project was still on the list of developments under construction. The club has not posted a specific opening day. The Main Clubhouse is at 22801 Oakwilde Boulevard, a mile past the gatehouse.
The Village expected the Lifestyle Center to be finished by late 2026, so it could open around the same time the remaining work at Daniels Parkway winds down.
